Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture iron-base sintered machine parts with high strength and high wear resistance by heating a green compact of alloy steel powder having a prescribed composition and graphite powder to a specified temp., cooling the resulting hot sintered body in a nonoxidizing atmosphere while regulating the temp. range average cooling rate.
CONSTITUTION: Alloy steel powder contg., by wt., 0.30W8.0% in total of one or more among 0.10W2.3% Mn, 0.10W5.5% Cr and 0.10W7.0% Mo, and a prescribed percentage each of Si, Al, Ti, C, and O is prepared. This powder is mixed with graphite powder and compacted. The green compact is sintered by heating and holding at 1,130W1,200°C for ≥20min in an atmosphere of a nondecarburizing reducing gas with ≥0.6% carbon potential. The hot sintered body is then cooled in a nonoxidizing atmosphere while maintaining the average cooling rate from 1,100°C to 500°C at 4W40°C/sec. Thus, the titled sintered machine parts are obtd. by a powder metallurgical method.
