Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a high strength electric welded steel pipe which is less threattened with bending owing to fluctuations in climatic conditions and secular change and is suited for oil wells, etc. by subjecting the electric welded part of a steel pipe formed from a steel plate to local heat treatment in a specific temp. range. CONSTITUTION:A steel plate is formed to a tubular shape and is electrically welded. The electric welded part is subjected to local heat treatment at above the A3 transformation point and >=1,000 deg.C. The residual stress of the welded part is relieaved by this heat treatment. Particularly by the local heating of 900 deg.C. The difference between the residual stress of the welded part and the residual stress of the base metal part is virtually eliminated, and the mechanical strength distribution is made uniform in the circumferential direction of the pipe. Hence, the toughness of the welded part is improved and the preventive effect of the selective corrosion of the welded part is obtained.
