Abstract
PURPOSE: To develop a surface-coated superhard alloy member for cutting tools which is provided with abrasion resistance and plastic deformation resistance and is superior in toughness by diffusing carbide, nitride, carbonitride, etc. of specific metals on the surfaces of WC powder and sintering the same.
CONSTITUTION: WC powder as a hard material, powder of one or ≥2 kinds of carbide, nitride and carbonitride of 4a, 5a, 6a group metals of periodic table, Al, Si and B and further produce of one or ≥2 kinds of iron group metals such as Co, Ni are mixed, and the mixture is molded by pressure. The moldings are sintered at aboven the liquid phase generating temp. in a decompressed atmosphere or N2 partial pressure <10-1 Torr, after which they are further heated to above the liquid phase generating temp. in a decompressed atmosphere of 0.5W100 Torr partial pressure of N2, whereby the NaCl type solid solution of the above-mentioned carbode, nitride, etc. are diffused and dispersed on the surfaces. The superhard alloy having the coating layer of 2W100μm thicknesses of which the inside is the composition consisting of 2W30% NaCl type solid solution, 3W30% iron group metals and the balance WC, and of which the surface consists of 0.5W20% NaCl type solid solution, 5W 40% iron group metals and the balanced WC is obtained.
