Abstract

PURPOSE: To uniformalize the load of gas pressure given to two seal members in a piston rod of an engine or the like provided with the two seal members by using a gas pressure adjusting device constructed of a two-stage piston and cylinder for adjusting the pressure in the section between these seals.
CONSTITUTION: A gas adjuster 10 is composed of a piston 12 provided with a small-diameter part 12a and a large-diameter part 12b and a cylinder 11. The space on the side of the large-diameter part of the piston is filled with grease to constitute a grease chamber 14. The gas sump pressure P0 in an engine main body 1 is conducted into a gas chamber 13, namely the space on the side of the small-diameter part in the gas pressure adjuster 10, while the section 9 between seals is communicated to the grease chamber 14. At this stage, when the area of the small-diameter part 12a is selected to be the half of the area of the large-diameter part 12b, the pressure P1 in the section between seals is reduced to the half of the gas sump pressure P0. That is, pressure loads to seals 7 and 8 are uniformalized.
