Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of defects such as cracks of ingot surfaces by specifying the ratio between the inside sectional area of a mold and an inside sectional area of a spout and specifying the flow speed of the molten in both in a belt and wheel type continuous casting machine.
CONSTITUTION: A mold 3 is constituted of a rotary casting wheel 1 provided with a hollow groove on the outside circumferential surface rotating in an arrow direction, and an endless belt 2 moving in contact with one end outside circumferential surface thereof. A spout 4 for charging is mounted to one end of such mold 3, and the molten metal is charged into the mold 3 through said spout 4 and is drawn continuously from the other end of the mold 3. Such spout which makes the ratio A/a between the sectional area A in the mold 3 and the section area (a) in the spout 4 1.05W7.5 is used, and the difference U-V between the flow speed U of molten metal in the spout 4 and the flow speed V of molten metal in the mold 3 is regulated to 0.25W110m/min. Thereby, a cast ingot having high surface quality is obtained continuously.
