Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the efficiency of a power amplifier by modulating pulse width on the basis of a synchronizing signal extracted from a video signal or a picture itself and changing the power voltage to be applied to the power amplifier according to the existance of the synchronizing signal or the picture. CONSTITUTION:A synchronizing separator circuit 21 extracts a synchronizing signal from a video input and sends the signal to both a multiplying circuit 22 and a controller 28. The controller 28 switches the movable terminal (c) of a switch 29 to a fixed terminal (a) and applies a picture bias to a pulse width modulator 23 only when a synchronizing signal from the synchronizing separator circuit 21 is inputted, and, if necessary, changes the movable terminal (c) to a fixed terminal (b) to apply a synchronizing bias to the pulse width modulator 23. The pulse width modulator 23 modulates the pulse width of a subscarrier sent from the multiplying circuit 22 by the picture bias or synchronizing bias and applies DC current corresponding to the pulse width to the base of a transistor (TR)24. Thus, the connection period of the TR24 is controlled, stabilizing the output voltage from a rectifier power source 13 and applying the output voltage to a power amplifier 12 through a smoothing circuit.
