Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the deposition efficiency of fine glass particles on a face for growing a porous glass body by feeding electrified liq. phase fine particles to a torch for synthesizing fine glass particles to electrify the glass particles. CONSTITUTION:Starting materials for glass and gases for a flame are fed to a torch 2 for synthesizing fine glass particles with a feeder 1 to form the fine glass particles. Gases for the flame are introduced into a liq. phase fine particle generator 9 provided with an ultrasonic vibrator 10 at the inside with the feeder 1 to generate mistlike fine particles of water or the like, and the particles are fed to the torch 2. At this time, a high DC voltage is applied between a carbon support rod 3' and the surface of the liq. in the generator 9 from a high voltage applier 11 through lead wires 12. Electrified mistlike fine particles are vaporized in the flame, and charges shift to electrify the fine glass particles. The electrified glass particles undergo the action of electrical dust precipitation and deposit on the rod 3' efficiently.
