Abstract

CONSTITUTION: The annular body 14 of a chuck 13 is rotatably supported on a bearbox 1 so that the axis of rotation of the body 14 extends inparallel with a driving shaft 2. A first gear 8 for opening/closing claws and a fourth overrunning gear 9 are secured on the peripheral surface of one end of a piston shaft 4f. An overrunning gear shaft 20 is rotatably supported in the gearbox 1 in parallel with the driving shaft 2. A second overrunning gear 21 engaged with a first overrunning gear 7 is rotatably fitted on the peripheral surface of the shaft 20. A third overrunning gear 22 engaged with the fourth overrunning gear 9 is secured on the peripheral surface of the shaft 20. Accordingly to this constitution, the chuck 13 is automatically opened or closed in a short time as it is rotating rapidly. This results in heightening the productivity of an automatic lathe.
