Abstract
PURPOSE:To permit to determine a radiation dose rate of artificial radiation sources with one measurement, by a method wherein a background dose rate is evaluated from concentrations of three natural nucleids emitting gammer rays and thus evaluated background dose rate is subtracted from the total exposure rate. CONSTITUTION:A pulse-height analyzer is connected to a detector capable of measuring energy of ionizing electromagnetic radiation, thereby to record a pulse- height profile of the ionizing electromagnetic radiation at a measuring place. This pulse-height profile is converted into an energy profile, so that the total exposure rate Rt is obtained by multiplying an energy absorption rate of air for each energy region. The energy profile includes therein a background dose rate Rb due to three natural uncleids emitting gamma rays[potassium 40 (2), bismuth 214 (3) and thallium 208 (4)], in addition to a dose rate from an artificial radiation source (1), Rb is determined by natural concentrations S1-S3 on the basis of the following formula; Rb=k1.S1+k2.S2+k3.S3 (wherein k1-k3 are conversion constants), those natural concentrations being obtained by multiplying peak values of the energy profile at the measuring place with proportional constants. By so doing, the dose rate of the artificial radiation R is obtained by one measurement from the following formula; R=Rt-Rb.
