Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the limit of lean mixture combustion and the performance of exhaust gas cleaning of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine by providing an auxiliary intake channel separte from a main intake channel that is opened and closed by an intake valve and specifying the distance between the outlet end of this auxiliary channel and the valve seat face of the intake valve that is being closed.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture gas formed in a carburetor is supplied to a combustion chamber 4 from a main intake channel 5 through an intake valve 10, and the gas is injected from an auxiliary intake channel the inlet end of which opens in the air channel of the carburetor through an injection nozzle that is at the outlet end of the auxiliary intake channel and this gas injection develops a swirl in the combustion chamber 4. In such an internal combustion engine, the end of the above mentioned injection nozzle pipe, namely the nozle portion opens on the side just upstream of the intake valve 10, and the distance S between the end of the pipe 22a and the valve seat face of the intake valve 10 is smaller than the inner diameter D of the intake port 6, and it is set up preferably within 10mm.
