Abstract
PURPOSE: To use an armrest for an automobile rear seat or the like in accordance with the size of a human body, by operating the knob of a fixed mechanism or the like to move the armrest body to an optional height in a stepless manner.

If the height of the armrest body 4 is not appropriate, a knob 11 is turned in a direction to rewind a coiled spring S1. AS a result, the inside diameter of the winding of the coiled spring S1 is increased within a range limited by the inside diameter of a cylindrical spacer 14 so that a rod 9b is released from a state of lockup and the armrest body 4 is moved up a spring S2 while the body 4 is guided by a slide mechanism 8. After that, the turning of the knob 11 is stopped to lock up the rod 9b by the spring S1 to halt the armrest 4 in a position of desired height L.
