Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the organic pollution load and recover a metallic chelate of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA-Me) effeciently, by separating the EDTA- Me in a waste liquor from salts with ion excange resin membranes.
CONSTITUTION: A waste liquor containing a metallic chelate of ethylenediamine- tetraacetic acid(EDTA-Me) is introduced from an introductory pipe 3 into an electrodialytic apparatus containing strongly acidic cation exchange membranes (C) and strongly basic anion exchange membranes (A) built in alternately, and a DC voltage is applied across electrodes (1a) and (2a) to transfer cations, e.g. Na+, and anions, e.g. Cl-, from the waste liquor passing through chambers 4 through the cation exchange membranes (C) and the aion exchange membranes (A) to the saline solution side of concentrating chambers 6. On the other hand, the EDTA-Me remains in the chamber 4 due to the difficult pasage through the exchange membranes (A) and (C), and the EDTA-Me containing no salt can be recovered through an outlet pipe (3a) for reuse.
EFFECT: The waste liquor has a low organic sludge load and can be treated by the conventional sewage treatment.
