Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a mold for low pressure casting by which metal moldes of high quality and high accuracy for tyres are obtained by selecting the materials for cores and bases, providing a refractory heat insulator layer on the top surface of a drag and forming runners between the same and base.
CONSTITUTION: A core 1 is formed of gypsum segments 1 for casting of the same shape as that of the outside surface of a tyre, and a refractory heat insulating base 12 of ceramics or the like of the coefft. of cubical expanison as that of said segments 11. Such core 1 is fixed in a master mold 3 consisting of a cope 31 and a drag 32, and runners 5 are formed between the base 12 and the refractory heat insulation layer 33 provided on the drag 32. Thence, compressed air or the like is blown through a diffusion port 6 to lift the molten metal 8 in a holding furnace 7 and fill it in a cavity 4 through the runners 5. While the filled molten metal 8 is receiving gaseous pressure, it solidifies directionally from the upper part of the mold toward a sprue. Particularly with this mold the runners 5 are maintained in a molten state until the molten metal 8 facing the segments 11 completes solidification, and therefore the good metal mold for molding and vulcanizing tyres is obtained.
