CONSTITUTION:A metallic thin film 10 of Ni, Cu, Al, Ag or the like with superior electric conductivity is formed on an opposite substrate 4 of glass or the like, and the film 10 is coated with an electrically conductive transparent film 2 of indium oxide or the like which is slightly soluble in an electrolytic soln. As a result, the resistance value can be reduced as compared to a case of an electrically conductive transparent film alone, the driving voltage can be raised practically, and the responding characteristics are improved. By coating the film 10 with the film 2, the breakage of the leading electrode is prevented, and the life of the resulting element can be elongated.
