Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture magnetic powder for a magnetic recording medium with high recording density by acid-treating a hexagonal system ferrite composition with low coercive force contg. other atoms substituted for part of the constituent molecules, adding fine SiO2 particles, and carring out dispersion and washing.
CONSTITUTION: As starting materials for hexagonal system ferrite, a substituting component for substituting for part of the constituent atoms of the ferrite to reduce the coercive force iHc and a vitrifying composition, Fe2O3, TiO2, CoCO3, BaCO3 and H3BO4 are mixed to prepare a composition consisting of 17.4% B2O3, 48.2% BaO, 30.5% Fe2O3, 2.0% TiO2 and 1.9%CoO. This melt is converted into an amorphous body by very rapid cooling, and the body is heat treated to deposit ferrite particles. After removing the glassy substance by dissolution in acetic acid, the particles are washed, and 0.5% fine SiO2 particles are added. They are then washed with an ultrasonic washing machine and dried to obtain SiO2-stuck hexagonal system fine ferrite particles.
