Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a polyester having excellent flame retardancy, without lowering the softenig point, by reacting a molten linear saturated polyester with a phosphorus compound and a bis-cyclic imino ether compound each having respective specific structure.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A linear saturated polyester having ≥10 equivalent/106g of terminal carboxyl group is reacted with (B) 0.1W10wt% of a phosphorus compound of formula I [R1 and R2 are -OH, -OR3 (R3 is univalent hydrocarbon group), or univalent hydrocarbon group; n is 0 or 1] (e.g. phenylphosphonic acid) and (C) bis-(cyclic imino) ether of formula II (X and D are bivalent organic group; l is 0 or 1; the ring structure is 5- or 6-membered ring), under melting conditions of the polyester. The amount of the (C) component is defined by the formula III [WB is amount of the component (B) (wt%); MB is molecular weight of the component (B); α is number of OH groups in the component (B); Cv is amount of terminal carboxyl group in the component (A) (equivalent/106g); Mc is molecular weight of the component (C)].
