Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove scale effectively by a method wherein a membrane module polluted with scale is washed by an aqueous solution containing an acid and a surfactant and, thereafter, further washed by an aqueous solution containing NH4F. CONSTITUTION:A semi-permeable membrane module having a membrane surface deposited with scale, especially, a silicate of which separation capacity and a water permeating amount are lowered is washed by an aqueous solution containing an acid and a surfactant at first. As the aforementioned acid, a mineral acid such as hydrochloric acid or the like is used in a concn. of 1% of less and an organic acid such as citric acid is used together and a total acid concn. of said aqueous solution is 2-3%. Further, as the surfactant, a usual anionic or a nonionic surfactant is appropriately used in a concn. of 0.1-0.5%. Subsequently, after the aforementioned first stage washing, said membrane module is subjected to the second stage washing by using an aqueous solution containing NH4F in a concn. of about 1-5% to release and separate scale from a membrane surface and, thereby, the washing of the membrane module is completed.
