Abstract

PURPOSE:To extend standard buses with extremely ease and at low cost, by performing serial transfer between the 1st and 2nd adapters. CONSTITUTION:Not only data but various control signals on a hand-shake line and a control line are converted into inherent code information, which are further converted into serial codes to perform serial transfer between adapters 21A and 21B as to all pieces of information. Therefore, a number of cables of an extending adapter 22 for extending the bus line 20A of a standard interface bus IEEE-IB to a bus line 20B is reduced to two. Using optical fibers for an extending cable 22 compensates a decrease in transfer speed due to the serial transfer, achieving high- speed transfer.
