Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the chemical stability of a terminal OH-containing saturated linear aromatic polyester in molten state and to suppress formation of oligomer, by reacting the polyester with a cyclic iminoester compound of a specific structure at high temperature.
CONSTITUTION: A terminal OH-containing and substantially linear aromatic polyester (e.g., polyethylene terephthalate having a terminal OH group of 20W50 equivalent/106g and an intrinsic viscosity of about 0.7) is reacted with preferably 0.2W4 PHR cyclic iminoester compound (e.g., 2-phenyl-3,1-benzooxazine-4-one, etc.) shown by the formula I (R is monofunctional organic group; X is bifunctional organic group; a ring structure shown by the formula II is 5W6 membered ring) preferably at normal pressure in an inert gas, e.g., N2, etc. or under reduced pressure at 200W300°C for about 1W30min.
