Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a stamped article freed from stress cracking by a method wherein a stamping material and a sheet formed glass fiber material laid on the surface of the stamping material are stamped together, and then a thermosetting resin is layered on the exposed part of the sheet formed glass fiber material and is hardened.
CONSTITUTION: The sheet formed glass fiber material is laid in the surface of at least one side of the sheet formed stamping material consisting of a thermoplastic resin (e.g., a polyamide) containing relatively long glass fibers, and then both the materials are stamped simultaneously in a stamping die to integrally laminate the both so that the one side of the glass fiber material is embedded into the surface layer of the stamping material and the other side of the glass fiber material is exposed to the exterior. Thereafter, a thermosetting resin (e.g., an epoxy resin) is layered on the exposed surface of the glass fiber material by impregnation, coating or other similar means and the resin is hardened to obtain the stamped article.
USE: Useful for molding automotive parts such as oil pans, locker covers, etc.
