Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate an afterimage by neutralizing residual charge completely by controlling the waveform of a voltage applied to each electrode of an image pickup tube during a flay-back period. CONSTITUTION:An image pickup tube has the electrode structure consisting of a cathode electrode 1, the 1st electrode 2, the 2nd electrode, the 3rd electrode 4, horizontal deflecting electrodes 5 and 6, and vertical deflecting electrodes 7 and 8. Voltages applied to the vertical deflecting electrodes 7 and 8 are so controlled that a beam scanning path during the horizontal fly-back period of the image pickup tube runs on the scanned surface of an image pickup tube target surface. Further, voltages applied to the cathode electrode 1, etc., are so controlled that a beam is emitted during a scan on the said scanned surface.
