Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the formation of a picture of high grade using a heater of a normal mode, by a method wherein, when recording is done by means of a high- density subscanning line, a printing pulse width, being shorter than a printing pulse width applied when recording is carried out by means of a normal density subscanning line, is applied to a heating resistor. CONSTITUTION:If a printing pulse width is caused to change from tau1 to tau2 (tau1< tau2), the distribution of heating temperature level shifts to a low temperature side as shown in a drawing illutstrating a change from a curve I(tau1) to a curve II(tau2). As a result, a size L2 in a subscanning direction of a recording head D2 to a printing pulse width tau2 is narrower than a size L1 of a recording head D1 for the printing pulse width tau2. Thus, in the case of normal mode, recording is conducted at the printing pulse width tau1, and in the case of a mode of high grade, recording is carried out at the printing pulse width tau2. This prevents the deterioration of resolution caused by the overlapping of recording dots.
