Abstract
PURPOSE: To form Zn-diffused layers on the surfaces of tubes and improve corrosion resistance by interposing brazing foil materials of a Zn-Al alloy between the tubes and fins in producing an Al-made heat exchanger.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of joining flat tubes 1 bent zigzag and multiple corrugated fins 2 constituting a heat exchanger made of Al, the fins 2 are inserted between the adjacent tube pieces 1a, and plate-like braze foil materials 3 of a Zn- Al alloy consisting of 95% Zn and 5% Al are interposed between the contact surfaces of both. After this assembly is activated of surfaces by an aqueous soln. contg. a nitric acid and a hydrofluoric acid, it is heated in a vacuum heating furnace. The materials 3 made of a Zn-Al alloy melt to form Zn-diffused layers 5 on the surface of the tubes and sacrifice anode layers of Zn are formed; therefore, the corrosion and pitting of the Al base metal are suppressed.
