Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the possibility of melt-sticking of the toner on transfer side and to eliminate the possiblity of transfer and fixing defect on fixing side by making the effective contact length on the fixing side of the intermediate medium of a transfer and fixing device longer with respect to the effective contact length on the transfer side. CONSTITUTION:The effective contact length in the contact part (transfer side) 6 of an intermediate medium (transfer and fixing roll) 7 with a photoreceptor 13 (this refers to the length of a contact section where contact is effected while contact pressure of more than a fixed value is maintained) is small because the diameter of a pulley 14c is small. Hence, the temp. elevation of the toner to temp. above its secondary transistion point T2 does not occur and melt-sticking of the toner on the photoreceptor does not occur. On the contrary, the effective contact length of the contact part (fixing side) between the intermediate medium and copying paper is made sufficiently large because the diameter of a pressure roll 18 is made sufficiently large; therefore, the transfer and fixing are accomplished surely.
