Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the rotation or idling of a catalyst element by setting the bulk density of cusions disposed at 60th ends of the element at a predetermined value and by giving a predetermined force to the element. CONSTITUTION:Cusions 3, 6 are disposed at both ends of a catalyst element 4, formed by coating catalyst metal on a ceramic honeycomb, to support the element 4 as shock absorbers, said cusions 3, 6 are constituted by materials of almost rectangular shape in section, e.g. stainless wires. The bulk density of said wire is set within 5-10% of the solid density of the same, while the inner diameter of the same is formed such that its size is gradually increased in the direction toward the element 4. With the above constitution, in assembling a catalyst casing, a corner part of the element 4 is covered by the inside of outer periphery of the cusion 3, 6 whereby a predetermined frictional force is given to restrain the rotation and idling of the element 4.
