Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a stable valve seat structurally with an excellent wear resistance by hardening, subzero treating and tempering of a sintered body, in which C, Cr and Cu is contained into Fe at a specified rate, under a specific condition.
CONSTITUTION: A sintered body with the following composition by weight %: C: 0.5W1.5%, Cr: 1W10%, Cu: 1W30%, and Fe and unavailable impurities for the rest and one or two of Ni and Co: 1W15% and/or one or two of Mo and W: 1W 15% as required or a Cu-impregnated sintered body is prepared. The material undergoes a hardening at 900W1,200°C, a subzero treatment below -20°C and a tempering at 400W700°C. This provides a valve seat with a stable fine martensite structure free of residual austenite.
