Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent sludge from floating up on the water surface, by constantly cutting the sludge in a settling tank of the activated sludge process to deaerate small air bubbles generated in the sludge.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge contained in a settling tank 7 is cut into small pieces by rotating thin wires 6 attached between an upper arm 6, a lower arm 4, a supporting frame 5 and a rotating hollow shaft 2. With this equipment, small air bubbles contained in the sludge is deaerated, so that the sludge floating on the water surface and suspending in the middle of the tank are forced to settle to the bottom of the tank.
