Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover V and Mo from waste catalyst for the desulfurization of fuel oil, in high recovery, by reacting caustic alkali with the waste desulfurization catalyst after oxidative calcination to remove attached oil and sulfur therefrom.
CONSTITUTION: Waste desulfurization catalyst is subjected to oxidative calcination at 500W1,000°C for several hours to remove sulfur and attached oil. The calcined product is made to react with an aqueous solution of caustic alkali in an autoclave under a pressure of ≥1kg/cm2 at ≥100°C, and the slurrified product is filtered to obtain the filtrate containing V and Mo. After adjusting the pH of the filtrate to 8W9 by adding acid thereto, the filtrate is heated at 60W70°C to precipitate and remove the trace of Al dissolved. The pH is again adjusted to 7W8 with an acid, and V is precipitated as ammonium vanadate by salting out with (NH4)2SO4. An acid is added to the residual liquid to attain about pH2. The dissolved Mo is precipitated by this process as molybdic acid.
