Abstract

PURPOSE:To recover valuable material with low cost in a short time by impact- crusing a button type waste battery to remove a negative cap from a positive container after heat-treatment and separating and recovering powders in the container. CONSTITUTION:Plastics and rubber on a seal are burned by heat-treating a button type waste battery to loosen a negative cap, simultaneously hazardous gases such as mercury vapor generated in the negative electrode by heating are recovered and treated through another different process to make harmless, then a radial force is added with an striking-crusher such as a hammer-mill or an impact crusher to remove a negative cap from a positive container, and valuable material in the container are recovered by magnetic attraction and sieving. The seal is easily broken and mercury is almost evaporated and removed when the waste battery is heat-treated at a temperature near 600 deg.C. Because the negative cap is not magnetically attractive, it is preferably impact-crushed again after sieving. Thus valuable materials containing silver are recovered with a low cost and in a short time.
