Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled heat insulating material having heat insulating properties, strength, etc., and usable for building, etc., by mixing a prepolymer containing free isocyanate with a pulverized waste material of rigid polyurethane foam, and reacting and curing the mixture in the presence of a catalyst by the compression under heating. CONSTITUTION:A waste material of rigid polyurethane foam is pulverized or cut to give a chip-like waste material having a diameter of about 20mm.phi or less. 100pts.wt. resultant waste material is then mixed with 7 pts.wt. or more solution prepared by adding a solvent, e.g. an aromatic hydrocarbon, to a prepolymer, containing 5-35% free isocyanate, and obtained by reacting 100pts.wt. polyol, e.g. polypropylene glycol, with an excess amount, e.g. 50-300pts.wt., of an isocyanate to reduce the viscosity of the prepolymer as a binder and an aqueous solution of a water-soluble tertiary amine as a catalyst at a weight ratio between the catalyst and the water of 1/10-1/50 by the spray coating for 30sec-5min. The mixture is then introduced into a mold, heated preferably at 100 deg.C or above for 2min or longer, compressed to a volume of 1/2-1/10, reacted and cured.
