Abstract

PURPOSE: To judge the quality of welded portions during the course of welding process without any inspection process, by measuring the frictional force on the welding face at the time of frictional movement in the process of frictional welding.
CONSTITUTION: The frictional force at the time of frictional movement has a close relationship with the weldability. Because of this, for example, a fixed supporting device 26 is attached to a pressure jig 25 of a frictional welding machine so that it may rotate freely, and a projection 26' of a detecting device working body is installed on the device 26. A load cell 22 is attached to a sensor receiving table 27 fixedly installed on the base of welding machine, and a compressive stress shown by the arrow 29 is applied by the frictional force shown by another arrow 28. Therefore, when the distortion signal of the cell 22 is fetched, the frictional force can be measured. When this value is smaller than a previously set value, the welded product is considered as excellent, and when it is larger than the previously set value, the product is considered as inferior.
