Abstract
PURPOSE: An extract from herb spice and ethanol are used as preservatives to increase the antibiotic activity against true fungi and gram-negative bacteria to increase the storability of food products with high antibiotic effect developed.
CONSTITUTION: A herb spice such as sage or rosemary is extracted with a polar solvent such as ethanol or actone, a mixture thereof with water or a mixture thereof with a nonpolar solvent such as n-hexane or petroleum ether. The solvent is distilled off and the residue is washed with a nonpolar solvent to prepare the extract. The extract and ethanol are added to a product to be stored such as food, cosmetics or medicines, preferably by 50W1,000ppm and 0.1W3wt% in concentration respectively.
