Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove influence of the working temperature condition and electrical noises, improve reliability and reduce occupied volume, by receiving light transmitted through a slit disc with an optical fiber and by sending it directly to an external optical detector. CONSTITUTION:Light from an external light-emitting element 14 enters a light- emitting lens 8 via an optical fiber 16 and is focussed to irradiate a slit disc 6. Among irradiation light, light that passes through a fixed slit 12 is focussed with a light-receiving lens 10, enters an optical fiber 20 and is transmitted to an external optical detecting element 18. Accordingly, the output signal from the element 18 changes to a pulse signal whose number corresponds to the amount of revolutions of the disc 6. In this case, the body 2 of an pulse encoder is incorporated into, for instance, a servo motor.
