Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the life of a surface-discharge-type (monolithic) gas electric-discharge panel by enalbing the suppression of the thermal configuration change of a dielectric layer by avoiding the local concentration of the discharge current of the said panel. CONSTITUTION:An insulating film 19 such as a PbO glass layer having parallel arranged V-shaped or reverse-trapezoidal, for example, reverse-trapezoidal grooves 18 is formed on a glass base plate 10. After that, Y-electrodes 11 are provided on the surface of the film 19 so that they cross the grooves 18, and X- electrodes 13 are provided in the above grooves 18 with a dielectric layer 14 also serving as an insulating layer, such as a borosilicate glass layer, interposed between the Y-electrodes 11 and the X-electrodes 13. Therefore, when voltage is applied across a selected X-electrode 13 and a selected Y-electorde 11, the electric field distributes over a wide range since a wide range of parts of the Y- electrodes 11 located on the slant inner walls of the grooves 18 is almost the same distance apart from the X-electrodes 13. Consequently, the local concentration of the discharge current is reduced, and the thermal configurational changes of the dielectric layer 14 and a surface layer 15 can be suppressed.
