Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to prevent the overheating of an engine while allowing the control capacity of the title device to be displayed sufficiently by a method wherein an independently driven type water pump is controlled by a sampling cycle which becomes short in proportion to a rise in the temperature of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A driving device 10 comprising a motor 12 for driving a water pump 2 independently with a variable speed ratio with respect to the rotation of an engine 1 is provided and a control circuit 13 is connected to the motor 12. The motor 12, that is, the driving device 10, is controlled by a long sampling cycle on the base of a cooling water temperature signal from a first temperature sensor 14 when the engine 1 is operated in a low temperature zone while it is controlled by a short sampling cycle on the base of a signal from a second temperature sensor 15 which signal designates the temperature of the wall around a combustion chamber, when the engine is operated in a high temperature zone. Consequently, the engine 1 is controled of its temperature minutely by a microscopic resolution and therefore, the over-heating of the engine can be prevented accurately.
