CONSTITUTION:A rough steel wire 1 is cold drawn with continuously arranged cold drawing devices 31-3n and passed through a capstan 5 and a liq. honing or shot peening box 6. During the passage through the box 6, the surface layer of the resulting steel wire 10 receives compressive residual stress. The wire 10 is then passed through a wire brushing device 7, where the surface of the wire is brushed with wire brushes rotating at high speed. Thus, compressive residual stress is further applied to the surface layer of the wire.
