Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate positioning by preventing a seek interval and the vibration frequency of a base from coinciding with each other, by using a speed profile which corresponds to a movement distance when moving the magnetic head group of a magnetic disk device. CONSTITUTION:When a magnetic head group 1 is moved from one optional position to another optional position on a magnetic disk 2, a number equal to a difference between their tracks is set in a difference counter 11, whose contents go down successeively with a cylinder pulse generated by a pulse generating circuit 16 each time the group crosses a track, thereby inputting the result to function generators 14-14<n>. Simultaneously, a counter 12 counts the number of tracks the group crossed, and a gate 13 selects one of the generators 14-14<n> on the basis of the number of tracks, thereby determining a speed profile by its output. Then, D/A conversion 15 is performed to output a speed set signal 17. Thus, a specific seek interval and the vibration frequency of a base 5 are prevented from coinciding with each other, and positioning a carriage 3 is facilitated.
