Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an austenite stainless steel with superior intergranular corrosion resistance and machinability by adding a prescribed percentage each of Mn and Cr and regulating the Mn and S contents.
CONSTITUTION: This austenite stainless steel contains 8W15wt% Ni and 16W 20wt% Cr and has Mn and S contents regulated to the range bounded by points A, B, C, D of the figure. By regulating the Mn and S contents as mentioned above, both of the corrosion resistance, especially the intergranular corrosion resistance (Huey resistance) and the machinability of the steel can be improved. By adding a prescribed amount each of Mo, Ti, Nb, Ta and Cu to said composition, said effect can be improved furthermore.
