Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a high ultrasonic picture sensitivity with a low momentary transmission output in an ultrasonic transmitting and receiving device, by using a variable delay line to convert the impulse to chirp pulses and transmitting them and compressing them after logarithmic amplification. CONSTITUTION:A transmission impulse 102 is converted to a chirp signal 106 by a variable delay line which has a longer delay time for higher frequency components and the chirp signal 106 is converted to a signal 108 by reducing the frequency. This signal 108 is amplified and is transmitted as ultrasonic waves to receive an echo 110. The transfer frequency band of an ultrasonic transducer is DELTAf=6-4MHz. Next, the frequency reverse conversion of 4 11.6 9MHz is performed after the logarithmic amplification in the dynamic range of Y=120dB. The signal of this frequency reverse conversion is compressed by a similar variable delay line to obtain pulses. When the noise is 60dB=Y/2 (Y is the dynamic range of the logarithmic amplifier) and the delay time difference is denoted as DELTAT, the range after compression is Y(DELTAf.DELTAT)<1/2>=4Y but the noise is not related to the time and is Y/2 still.
