Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the titled composition, which has a remarkably suppressed hygroscopicity, is easily storable, and does not show chalking when used as a surface-treating agent or a water-repelling agent, by adding a small amount of a compound convertible into an acylate or chelate type ligand to a metal alcoholate.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of 1mol of a metal alcoholate of the formula (wherein X is Ti, Zr, Al; n is a coordination number of these metals; R is a 1W10C alkyl) and 0.01W0.20mol of a compound capable of forming an acylate type ligand (e.g. acetic or benzoic acid) or of a chelate type ligand (e.g. ethylenediamine or acetylacetone) to a central metal of the alcoholate. The hygroscopicity of the composition can be greatly reduced. Handling and storing for the compound used as a surface-treating agent or a water-repelling agent becomes easy, and film characteristics are improved without causing chalking.
