Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a continuous displacement meter which is small in size, is long in life and can be electrically insulated by converting the displacement of an object to be detected to a change in electric current by the use of a photodetector array constituted of plural photodetectors. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting element 1 and a one-dimensional photodetector array 2 are placed to face each other and a light shielding plate 3 is disposed between these. The collectors of N-pieces of phototransistors Th1-N of the photodetector array are commonly connected, and the emitters of the respective phototransistors are connected independently to a current mirror circuit, so that the photocurrents of the respective photodetectors are controlled to a constant current. The number of the photodetectors which are kept irradiated with the light of an intensity higher than a certain intensity is changed by the change in the position of the plate 3 which converts the displacement of an object to be detected to the change in the rotating angle via a revolving shaft 4, whereby the displacement of said object is converted to the output current P0 of the photodetector array.
