Abstract
PURPOSE:To shorten switching time by switching a forward (backward) recording or reproducing state to a backward (forward) recording or reproducing state without any stopping state. CONSTITUTION:At a forward recording and reproducing position 10g, the end of a tape or the connection part between a leader tape and a tape T is detected, and this detection output is passed through a control circuit to switch the forward channel of a combination head 24 to the backward channel electrically while the roller 20 of a pin 19 is moved to a backward recording and reproducing position 10f through a cam surface 10j without reversing a motor. At this time, the tip of a rotary arm 13b comes into contact with a cam surface 11h from the cam surface 11g of a cam 11a, so a pinch roller 30 moves away from a capstan position, so that the pinch roller 30 in a pinch roller housing 28 on the opposite side comes into contact with the capstan 8 with a tape 7 between.
