Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve durability with low oxygen overvoltage by using an anode wherein a layer consisting of metals of Ni, Co, Ag contg. particles of metals selected from Ni, Co, Ag in such a way that part thereof expose on the surface is provided on the core of an electrode.
CONSTITUTION: An anode is produced by providing a layer 2 consisting of at least 1 kind of metals selected from Ni, Co, Ag contg. particles 3 contg. metals selected from Ni, Co, Ag in such a way that part thereof expose on the surface, on an electrode core 1. The sizes of the metallic particles are 0.9W50μ and the thickness of the layer 2 are 20W200μ. Such anode and a cathode are disposed in an electrolytic cell via a cation exchange membrane, and an aq. caustic alkali soln. is supplied to the anode side and water or an aq. dilute caustic alkali soln. to the cathode side, and the water is electrolyzed, whereby hydrogen and oxygen are produced.
