Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce methane from agricultural and stock-farming wastes, in high efficiency, by carrying out the setting of the temperature in the fermentation tank and/or the addition of an acid to the fermentation tank and/or the removal of ammonia from the feed liquid or treated liquid, thereby controlling the concentration of organic acids in the tank below a preset value.
CONSTITUTION: Agricultural or stock-farming wastes such as pig manure, orange cake, guts of cattle or pig, etc. are used as the raw material, and the concentration of organic acids in the fermentation tank is maintained to ≤1,000mg/ l by carrying out the setting of the temperature in the fermentation tank and/or the addition of an acid such as ferric chloride, hydrochloric acid, etc. to the fermentation tank and/or the removal of ammonia from the feed liquid or treated liquid. The temperature and the pH in the tank are adjusted to meet with the formula[T.N is sum of the nitrogen in the form of ammonium ion and the nitrogen in the form of molecular ammonia in the tank (mg/l); pK is equilibrium constant]. At least a part of the feed liquid is stripped with steam or gas to remove the ammonia.
