Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a mutiple mode optical fiber realizing a wide band transmission which extends to wide vand of wavelength by operating a distribution mode of an additive concentration. CONSTITUTION:On an optical fiber consisting of a core of radius (a) and a clad of radius (b), a distribution of a refractive index having the broadest transmission band is as a following equaition. Where (r) represents a radius, n1 a refractive index at a core center, DELTA a difference of specific refractive indices between a core center and a clad part, alphaopt a number so called an optimum refractive index distribution coefficient, F(r) a function of the radius (r), respectively. In general, since alphaopt depends on a wavelength, two kinds of additives are added into this optical fiber so as to make a prescribed distribution mode and to make therefractive index distribution coefficient alpha has a wavelength dependency which almost coincides with alphaopt as shown in the figure, and, then, a broad band transmission is realized. Further, the prescribed distribution mode is derivated on the condition that the refractive index distribution coincides with said ideal refraction index distribution at one optimizing wavelength and in its neighbourhood or at two optimizing wavelengthes.
