Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a polymer with extremely excellent heat resistance in high yield at a high polymerization rate, by (co)polymerizing a linear α-olefin having a branch at the 3-carbon atom with the aid of a specified catalyst;
CONSTITUTION: A linear α-olefin having a branch at the 3-carbon atom, represented by formula III, wherein R3 is a 1W5C alkyl, and R4 is H, methyl or ethyl (e.g., 3-methylbutene-1) is homopolymerized or copolymerized with other olefins with the aid of a catalyst consisting of titanium trichloride completely freed from AlCl3 or containing the same in a molar ratio to TiCl3 of below 0.1, and an organoaluminum of formulaI, wherein R and R1 are each a 1W12C hydrocarbon residue and n is in the range: 0.1≤n≤0.8 (e.g., a compound of formula II). It is possible to convert monomer C into a polymer at a polymerization rate several times higher than those in other processes.
