Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the oxidation and misrun of molten metal and to perform gravity casting efficiently by tilting metal molds for casting of Al alloys with respect to the gravity direction with a single sprue located upward, charging molten metal therein and allowing the metal molds to stand, then restoring the metal mold to the home position and removing the casting. CONSTITUTION:Oil hydraulic cylinders 3, 5, 5', 8 are operated to close the metal molds consisting of a bottom part 2, side parts 7, 7', and a top part 9 to be ready for charging of molten metal. With a pivot shaft 12 in a stand 11 connected with a machine flask 1 as a fulcrum, a clevis type oil hydraulic cylinder 13 is operated to tilt the frame 1 together with the metal molds at 5-15 deg. in the gravity direction and molten metal is charged thereon. Upon completion of the charging, the metal molds are left standing for a prescribed time (5sec-5min), after which the metal molds are returned to the state before the tilting. The metal molds are opened by operating the cylinders 3, 5, 5', 8 and the product is removed by operating ejector pins 4.
