Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the fuel efficiency of an engine and reduce the size and weight of auxiliary machinery, by connecting the crankshaft of the engine to a driven shaft through a transmission mechanism to drive the plural auxiliary machines through a transmission unit provided on the driven shaft. CONSTITUTION:The torque of the crankshaft 1 of an engine is transmitted to a driven shaft 21 through a transmission mechanism comprising pulley assemblies 10, 20 and a belt 40. A plurality of auxiliary machines 32, 33, 34 are driven through the driven shaft 21 and a transmission unit 30. When the rotational frequency of the engine is in a low range, the rotation of the crankshaft 1 is transmitted to the driven shaft 21 at a prscribed speed reduction ratio. When the rotational frequency of the engine has become high, the distance between the V-belt 40 and the axis is changed by the centrifugal force of a weight 25 to keep the prescribed speed reduction ratio. The auxiliary machins 32, 33, 34 are thus driven at an appropriate transmission ratio. For that reason, the fuel efficiency is improved and the auxiliary machines 32, 33, 34 can be made compact.
