Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the fuel residual quantity as well as the consumption efficicncy and the like to be accurately displayed, by a method wherein the data needed to calculate the fuel consumption, the fuel consumption efficiency and the like are collected in the pulse unit of a fuel flowmeter, and correction factors are provided over the whole operation range of an engine. CONSTITUTION:The output signals from a fuel flowmeter 50 which outputs pulse signals having the number with respect to the flow quantity of the fuel fed to an engine and from a vehicle speed sensor 40 which detects the speed of a vehicle are delivered to a microcomputer 10, where counting, comparison and calculation are performed to obtain the fuel consumption and the fuel consumption efficiency of the vehicle. Because the data on the reference fuel flow quantity per unit pulse signal of the fuel flowmeter 50 and the data to suffice the relation of the correction factor to the fuel flow quantity per unit time over the whole operation range of the engine are preveously stored in a read-only memory ROM in the microcomputer 10, the fuel flow rate can be accurately calculated over the whole operation range.
