Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a molten steel level in a mold easily and securely a simple process by feeding adiabatic flux onto molten steel so that the depth of slag into which an electrode is inserted is within a specific range at any time. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 5 are introduced in a slag 3 under a flux 4 floating on the surface of molten steel in a casting mold 1 and the change in electric resistance dependent on the temperature change in the position of introducing the electrodes is detected. The electrodes 5 are displaced up and down in the manner that the detected value may be constant all the time. This value of displacement is measured to detect the level of molten steel 2 in the casting mold 1. In this process, the employed flux 4 is heat-insulative and the heat-insulative flux 4 is thrown on the molten steel 2 so that the depth of slag 3 to which an electrode 5 is introduced may be within a range of 3-15mm. all the time.
